Do I smell a comeback?

Boys…just when I thought you were down and out for the count, you come back and play like you did last night. That was an epic victory if ever I saw one.

I was very much okay with just accepting the end of our pleasantly extended season. But now…now hope has been rekindled.

WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME?

And on top of last night’s awesome game, there’s buzz around Coby’s possible return on Sunday. Oh yea, and KIMMO TIMONEN, TOO!

This is just a prime example of how much the Flyers simply thrive on these back against the wall situations. It’s sick and twisted and maybe even sadistic, but man oh man do I love it.

P.S. Also, how much do I love our CSN commentators? Some epic quotes:

Let’s Go Flyers!

I’ve moved past my disappointment towards this series. Now I’m just grateful. Grateful that the Flyers have come so far this year and have had such an amazing season after what happened a year ago.

A small part of me still holds out hope that the boys can pull off some miracle and get the next 4 games. But I’m not counting on it.

The Pens have been the better team this series. Losing Kimmo and then Coby was a tough break for  us.

Johnny is totally tweaking the lines tonight and I am pretty excited to see how the game goes down. I’m sad that Riles hasn’t had the chance to play in any of the post season but he’s a big part of this team, no matter if he’s on the ice or not.

I’m sure Holmgreen will make some good moves/acquisitions over the summer. I can’t see what he comes up with.

So tonight will be fun. Exciting. A good time. It’ll be Flyers hockey.

Why not us?

I would have liked a split in Pittsburgh.

At the very least, the Flyers came back and played better than they did in game 1. Especially after Coby got injured in the 1st period. Oi. First Kimmo, now him. A curse, we haz it.

The boys need to work on puck handling. Srsly. I can admit that the Pens have epic puck possession and passing, especially in the offensive zone. We must match that. The best part of our game is offense and I don’t think we’ve been able to establish much attack time. Let’s work on that. Kthxbai.

Thank bb jeebus for Richie. So far he’s been made of win. I love it when he gets short-handed goals. Man, watching him get a breakaway is magical; ya know 98% of the time, something good will happen.

Yay for Carts, too! His goal was awesome of course, but I think he had a really strong game overall. He was a man possessed in both zones. I love it when the boys have good two-way play.

Both Scotties were pretty good, too. Harts was the only good thing about line 1 and Uppie fired on the net whenever he had the puck. His fight was a bit hard to watch, but I think he was trying to get the rest of the boys pumped more than actually kick some ass.

I would think Downie is out for game 3. That turnover was pretty bad. I wonder if he would have had more chemistry with Richie and Lupes; it’s not like Umbie has been sparking much in this series so far anyway. Do ya think they’ll bring Thor back or maybe try Cote?

I’m hoping home ice is a real advantage for us now. We NEED a win.

Pens lead series 1-0

See, when most teams come back from a break, they’re usually rested and refreshed right? Then someone please explain to me why our boys looked like a bunch of little leaguers skating through quicksand last night!? WTF BOYS.

Sigh. Okay, so not everyone was terrible. Richie had a good game. 2 goals! Yay for him Modry also surprised me, he wasn’t as awful as I feared he would be.

But wtf happened to everyone else? Namely line 1 and Marty B.  Lines 3 & 4 were kind of invisible, too. Hi Carts, could you please turn on the awesome now? Please?? And Danny B - dude, everytime you touched the puck it was like an instant turnover. Let’s work on that, yes?

This is not the team that beat the Habs in 5. Can I have that team back now? Kthxbai.

I will not lose all hope, however. We lost both games 1 in our previous two rounds. Not to mention I felt like the Flyers were getting a bit of their attitude back towards the end of the game. I hope they come out roaring in game 2 tomorrow. I’m thinking we should sit Jimmy Dowd and put Cote in. I’m sure if anyone’s dying to play, it’s him. And we could use some of that high energy and enthusiasm that Riles brings right about now.

Man oh man do I miss Kimmo.

6 more hours, give or take…

I’m excited and nervous. I still can’t get over the Kimmo injury. Sick. So I’m thinking D might look something like: Hatch/Coby, Smith/Kukkie, and Modes/RJ? Need to spread out the awesome of Coby/Kukkie/RJ. Smith + Modes = epic fail. Nothxkbai.

Reminder: This blog is all in good fun. I love hockey and I respect all players, even if they aren’t on the Flyers. Well, mostly. But I do cherish our rivalries and my arch nemeses. I might have dumb nicknames for them, but I don’t think I’ve truly insulted anyone yet. I’m all for freedom of speech but let’s not get too mean, comment wise, kay? I won’t approve anything that I deem innappropriate or hurtful. Ha, that sort of makes me a ref…and I’ll be so much better than the refs from the Habs series. Oh yes I did!

Kimmo Timonen out indefinitely

Well I’ve always dismissed the idea, but I think it’s about time I re-evaluate that whole Philly curse idea.

In case you haven’t heard, Timonen is out indefinitely, probably the remainder of the playoffs, with a blood clot in his ankle.

WHY GOD WHY?

Okay. I’m okay. Just…….GUH. Poor guy! It would have been his first time going to the conference finals. Maybe things are worse than we think and he’ll be able to come back. Pretty please?

Okay boys. It’s time for the rest of the defense to step up majorly. Actually, everyone really needs to step up now. We can do this.

Always the Underdogs

First it was the Caps & Alexander the Great. Then it was the Habs - the #1 seed in the NHL. Now we’re moving on to face the Pens & Sid the Kid plus Malkin, and the Flyers are still being sorely underrated.

Wtf? Srsly bbs.

You’d think by now people outside of Philly would begin to see that maybe our boys actually have a shot here. It’s not lucky bounces or refs who favor us (can  you even imagine that?) but oh hai - Philadelphia is actually good.

Who woulda thunk it!? At this time last year could anyone have seriously imagined the Flyers going to the Eastern Conference Finals in only a year?

Who cares if the Pens have Crosby, Malkin, and Hossa. We’re hardly lacking in the players who are awesome department. Danny Briere, Mike Richards, Kimmo Timonen, R.J. Umberger, Jeff Carter…do any of these names ring a bell?

Oh wow, that Fleury kid is turning out to be quite the net defender. Gee whiz, so is Marty Biron! Not to mention, a few years ago back in the AHL finals, Fleury was whooped by some of our current star players i.e. Richie and Carts, for the Calder Cup.

I know the Pens are an awesome team, I can admit it. But ya know what? So are the Flyers. And that’s the kind of awesome I revel in.

Flyers vs Pens in Eastern Conference Finals

Only fate could bring us here. To face my true arch nemesis, Crybaby (aka Sidney Crosby).

I was informed that a TSN commentator said something to the affect of: “The Pens purposefully messed up the last game they played against the Flyers so they wouldn’t have to verse them in the playoffs. Well, looks like they’re versing them now.”

Oh, the cackles that induced.

Yes, I know we must beware of them. All we will hear now is “they’ve got Crosby and Malkin and Hossa and Sykora…” yadda yadda yadda.

But we have Richie and Carter and Briere and Umberger and Upshall and Lupul, etc. Not to mention our defense and goaltending has improved greatly since the last time we played them.

I am SO excited for this series. It will be rough and gritty and nasty and amazing.

This is what hockey is all about.

Eastern Conference Finals here we come!!!

I can barely think right now. That was one of the most intense hockey games that I have ever watched. Holy crap.

Boys. I knew you were capable of this. And a big bwahaha to the nonbelievers. Habs in 5 my ass. Ha I say!

I am so excited that R.J. Umberger has been upgraded to epic. It’s about damn time. Man oh man, when he’s on he is on.

Another awesome game for Richie. I never get tired of watching him play. He’s one of those players that can just bust out the most awesome breakaway or scoring attempt, a real pleasure to watch.

I wish Carts would step it up a bit. I know all of the comms seem to be in love with him and he can be an awesome player, but he needs to SCORE some more. And stop with turnovers, they drive me insane.

So if turns out that we’re facing the Pens (which I’m sure it will) um we can SO take them. Of course it would come down to Crybaby, my most loathed arch nemesis!

P.S. There were a few wtf moments, officiating wise, but overall I wasn’t as murderous as I thought I would be. Yay!
